howdy
here's a interesting one , music in class , what do you think .
i can see both sides , i take classes from womens cardio thai to full trad karate .
we
do mma classes , thai , kickboxing , bjj, womens fitness, mens extreme
fitness, womens self defence , mens self defence ,and so on.

in all the modern style classes i use music , usually VERY loud , drum and bass , pendulum , trance .............

but in my trad classes and self defence for women in dont .

but here's a strange one , i do use music in male self defence classes .

i never really thought about it till last night

i usually use it for adrenalin and atmosphere , get's them pumped .

but i've had people turn up to classes and say "music"???????????

i also use it for me , helps me think and relax .

cheers

I play guitar ( if that helps) :-)

Not quite what Matt asked, but I find playing music help you understand the importance of timing within martial arts.

Think of a movement as the beat. Fill the spaces in between and you are a winner LOL ;-)

I think music will certainly help beginners find a 'rythm'

hey merlyn
i play guitar and bass , what style you into .
it is true as with form / set , if you think of it as a peice of music you are quids in,
like with music it's the pauses and the speeding up /slowing of tempo that can make or break it.
cheers

On a different note, I rememebr attending a Tai
Chi class many years go and they were playing some rather soothing
flute in teh background. I found that added to the atmosphere.

I
suppose if you are in a high energy workout/training session, some rock
in the background will always pick people up and push them onwards.

I talk to much when I teach LOL you'd be turning the volume up and down all the time :-)
