just wonderd how most of you feel about the rise of the franchise , the mcdojo.
my pet hate , i have seen many , but at the moment our area is flooded with the buggers .
bloody shitty matt fiddes , puma, gkr and the like .
really really gets my back up .
i have trained bloody hard , and have 5 proper black belt (well 7 by proxy), all with over 10 years training in , 26 years in kenpo ,
started shotokan at area young age , i have worked hard to build my name , yep that right "MY NAME" , not a purchased franchise of matt the **** fiddes . or any other mcdojo , designed to extort and con students who don't know any better , and believe they are getting the real deal.
i had one guy the other day compare my venue to a local tkd school (franchised), ( no dispespect to tkd ) i have trained with proper tkd guy's and some have great skill's , but these guy's are muppets , a year ago they brought one of their top guy's ( aged about 16 and a 5th or 6th dan ?!?!?!?!? how!!!!!)
and one of my orange belts with all of 8 months training slaughterd him .
this is not a dig! just frustration at the fact that the damn franchises that can afford £600 a month ad's in my local paper will pick up students .
with ad's like "train with world champ or 10th dan master (the guy was about 28!!!) "
how many champs do these buggers have .
like i said this is not a dig at real artists , or arts .
these fakes will destroy our much loved culture , and we will be a wash with 10million give away black belts and more masters than you could poke a stick at .
our sports halls are a wash with weekend bruce lee's .
the "i have a black belt but now crap about the arts or the cultural back ground" .
i have finally got a international magazine to let me do a colum on kenpo , a true battle , as sadly we are not comercial , but some gimp that can do a "chocky socky flying kamikazi 360deg spinning butterfly kick" with get 10 pages , funny really , we were the warrior breed , hardend artist , that had trained gruelling sessions , punishing our body's and sculpting our minds .
to give way to a pree pubecent teenager with 6 dan grades and never had a fight , probably not long out of school.
the tragic plight of the true arts .

cheers
matt

Well said mate.................

Just a shame you had to say it.............

I have the same sorts of problems within the art I study. People believing the hype and looking for the 'easy ' path.

If you figure out a solution...lemme know :-)

Good for you, shame there youngsters about I've moderated my language.
I seriously hate them shysters, I got a '1st dan' joined me, what a waste of space, I know I can say Can't kick, can't punch - must be jujitsu but I've earned the right. This guy marched up and down punching fresh air with on hand and slapping his chest with the other (to make a 'good' sound).
###### No more I can't go on,,,,,, the memory is too upsetting.

It's enough to turn you to drink.where's my cider !!!! LOL

I am sure we all have stories of shocking training partners LOL.

One of my favorites is teaching a seminar where some karate-ka turned up to train. I was working with a female shodan.

She struck...I avoided 45 degress to the right....she struck again......I moved 45 degrees to teh left..I got hit!

Hmm I am thinking ..what did I do wrong there ????

Try this again........

She struck...I avoided 45 degress to the right....she struck again......I moved 45 degrees to teh left..I got hit!

Hmmm................!!!!

AHAH cyclops

She struck.............I moved 45 degrees right.................she struck again and I never moved..she continued punching in a nice straight line LOL.

I was moving off the line of attack........but teh second strike was never coming anywhere near me LOL. Had to try and instruct people they need to see what they hit and hit what the see LOL.

God bless linear line training Razz

Our Association is a mixed group, every year we used to do a Masters course, Rick young Dave Turton and so 7th/8th dan karate guys and my bunch got stuck with the karate lot one year - I've never had as many complaints, '2 hours up and down the room punching fresh air.'
So they won't go now.
