an old friend
hi
dunno if anyone feels the same as me .
probably not as i am clinically mad .
i am talking about the relationship between a man (or woman) and his gi.
thats right , me and my suit.
i have had my current ( main ) training jacket for about 12 years .
i have me kugans and koral for me bjj and shorts ect for thai kickboxing , got me sprawls for me mma.
but nothing compares to my old manky faded sweat stained gi.
the bottoms died years ago and have been replaced over and over again ,
but the crap m a r jacket still lives.
it is like an old friend to me , fit's like a glove.
it used to be coverd in patches , but befor my last mai apperance i decided that none of the affiliations that i was sporting logo's for deserved any publicity as i spent many years as a out cast (politics).
so i thought fu#k em and ripped them all off that morning .
but still with all the battle damage it is the best gi in the world .
i have a tokiado i paid near on £300 for , but have only worn 2/3 times.
just wonderd if you had a inaminate object that has a great sentimental value thru you training.
also my first black belt that is falling to bit's now , feels great on .
i got a horrible custom made one with writeing and nice pretty dan grades ( usually dragged out for gradings lol),
me old and tatty has some mouldy red tape hanging (suposed to be grades)off lol
cheers
matt

Re: an old friend
I don;t think I have any favoured posessions. The weapons we use are just tools to be picked up and put down at will so I am not attached to those.
I train in whatever I am wearing.....Gi in the winter........shorts in the summer.............
With regards to animate objects.I am quite fond of my wife

Re: an old friend
I've got a Shogun gi that's very special - magic (almost).
I don't really care what gi/suit anyone wears for training, my own choice is contact pants and a sweat shirt, but and it's a big BUT, when put this old gi on and it must be at least 15 years old I turn Japanese!
I walk like a Japanese, I become strict, my techniques change - very strange and not like me at all.
When i went to fight in the USA I trained in thai shorts but fought in my freestyle gi (made by Murrain - very good quality).

Re: an old friend
My Murrain GI top has lasted a lot of years, as for bottoms always have to shorten ( I'm to short for my weight !! ) them.
